East is a section of the country tightly controlled by the remnants of the US government. It is devoted to the military cause. Every citizen is raised from birth as a soldier, but they also learn other essential skills. They are working to pull the world back together, but it is a long and difficult process that has barely begun.

Also called 'The Flats', this is an area that extends for hundreds of miles. Almost three quarters of it is bare rock, nearly completely flat and level. It is smooth and has the texture of glass. Parts are slippery, and parts are pocked and pitted. Some areas are littered with wide holes, sometimes very deep. Whatever area that is not rock is rocky soil, with only the toughest grasses growing thick and tall.

On these ancient peaks, so old they are now rounded, incredibly large hills. Crimson Indian Paintbrush flowers carpet these hills, mottling them in a bloody red. Legends among locals say that the ground was stained with blood during the war. Towns surround the thickly forested hills, but few ever venture in. There are some dwellings within the forest, though, and some say there is a small settlement hidden away in the forests protecting depths...
